Please enjoy this video of the of the Frank Ski Kids Foundation's programs A Message from Our Chairman and President “Welcome to FrankSkiKids.org, the online home of the Foundation whose focal point is meeting the needs of our children. Since 2000, our Foundation has been servicing the Metro Atlanta community and beyond. As Chairman and President, it was our undertaking and became goal of our board to express the financial needs of under-served children. Our Mission Exposing Kids to their future through science, technology, athletics and the arts. Our Vision The Frank Ski Kids Foundation embraces youth and their value by showing examples and providing hands-on opportunities to promote optimal growth, self-expression, ingenuity, achievement and learning vital to their ambitions. Through the efforts of the Foundation and the help of charitable contributors, observable differences in communities have been made. Our efforts to date have helped many children, but the needs of our children remain immense. We must continue with unfaltering determination and dedication. How We Measure Our Success SCIENCE - In July 2007, the Frank Ski Kids Foundation sent 11 kids to the Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos Islands, the first group of American school children to go on such an educational excursion. Upon their return from the Galapagos, normally reserved Elizabeth Oppong was invited on two separate occasions to speak about her experiences in front of the Environmental Protection Agency. She is now also attending the well-regarded Phillips Academy in Andover, Pennsylvania, on a full scholarship as a result of her experience abroad. TECHNOLOGY – The Frank Ski Kids Foundation provided the opportunity for Tiffany Dinkins to take part in the Space Camp program at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama in 2002. Space Camp gave Dinkins the confidence and push she needed to experience new things. She has since been accepted to and received scholarships and/or assistance from the following schools: Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern University, University of Virginia, and University of Maryland. ATHLETICS – About six years ago, student and football player Blake Sims landed a spot in a football camp led by former Atlanta Falcon Michael Vick, in conjunction with the Frank Ski Kids Foundation. Sims received the honor of camp MVP and was awarded one-on-one time with Vick (to play Madden NFL). “Little Vick” left camp with an increased determination to pursue football professionally, and in 2009, he was the number one recruited athlete in Atlanta. Next Fall, Sims will be Quarterback at the University of Alabama. THE ARTS - 16 year-old Dwayne Walker took part in last year’s art trip to Florence and has since been commissioned to sell his artwork! I have no doubt that our Rome students will experience significant transformations of their own,” says Tanya Ski, Foundation President. “Art programs in schools across the nation are in jeopardy, particularly in Georgia. I want young students to have the opportunity to not only learn about art history and receive tips from top-notch instructors but also experience first-hand the very museums and pieces of artwork that they (hopefully can still) learn about in school!” |
