SPACE CAMP 2008: FSKF Partners With The Ron Clark Academy

ATLANTA – The Frank Ski Kids Foundation is excited to announce its new partnership with the Ron Clark Academy.

Every year the Frank Ski Kids Foundation takes 10 lucky competition winners on a six day learning excursion to space camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The science competition was held at the Ron Clark Academy and organized by the Frank Ski Kids Foundation. The 13 winners, comprised of Ron Clark Academy students, were selected from the entrants and awarded the chance to spend time learning about space and aviation.

On Thursday May 22, 2008, 20 finalists came to the Coca Cola World Studio at Zoo Atlanta to give their presidential speech in font of a panel of judges. Each participant had three minutes to complete their speech and or present their visual piece to the judges (visual piece not mandatory).

The Frank Ski Kids Foundation Planet Green: Amazon Adventure Science Competition was judged on a point consensus system: using a zero to four point system: 0=unsatisfactory, 1=satisfactory, 2=good, 3=very good, 4=excellent.

* Essay may include a visual piece (project or drawing). Recommended NOT mandatory.

* Essay must be written as a speech to be delivered as the President of the United States addressing the country.

* All sources of factual information must be given.


20 FINALISTS WILL BE CHOSEN TO COMPETE IN A LIVE COMPETITION.

The 20 finalists chosen will have the chance to present their essays in speech format to a panel of judges.

JUDGING RULES

The panel of judges will be appointed from members of the Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta and Sponsors of the Frank Ski Kids Foundation. The judging will be held on May 22, 2008 @ 7 p.m. at Zoo Atlanta's Coca Cola World Studio.

Each finalist will be limited to three (3) minutes for their verbal and visual presentation (NOTE: visual piece is NOT mandatory).

The Frank Ski Kids Foundation Planet Green: Amazon Adventure Science Competition will be judged on a point consensus system: each participant will be judged using a zero to four point system: 0=unsatisfactory, 1=satisfactory, 2=good, 3=very good, 4=excellent. For each participant, all judges will give their written scores to the panel secretary; if the results are clear, the participants being considered for grand prizes will be noted, if the results are not clear a discussion will be opened between the judges and a consensus must be reached.

Grand Prize winners will be announced on Friday, May 23, 2008.

DOCUMENTATION NEEDED FOR TRAVEL

All finalists MUST bring birth certificates and current shot records with them on the evening of judging. Travel documents will be issued and are to be completed on the evening of judging (The Frank Ski Kids Foundation will pay for passport processing and travel shots for all winners).
