Departure Day:

On Sunday, June 6rd, the Frank Ski Kids Foundation departed with six Atlanta area school students on our International Art Excursion to Rome, Italy. The flight from Atlanta was nine hours long, but I believe the kids enjoyed it, despite the turbulence. Lol!

Frank Ski Kids Foundation Recognizes Fulton County’s Finest Teens

Why: Recognizing six outstanding students with a luncheon including news anchor Monica Pearson and R&B artist Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas




ATLANTA – Six of Atlanta’s outstanding Fulton County students will be honored Sunday, March 21, 2010, during The Frank Ski Kids Foundation’s Local Legend Luncheon featuring prominent community leaders Monica Pearson and Rozonda, “Chilli” Thomas. Tanya Ski, President of The Frank Ski Kids Foundation, will host the Local Legend Luncheon along with guests of honor and Local Legend recipients: Monica Pearson, News Anchor for WSB-TV, Channel 2, the ABC affiliate in Atlanta, GA and Grammy award-winning member of R&B group TLC, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. This event will allow the students a chance to discuss their goals and tactics for their future. The Frank Ski Kids Foundation will honor students with a Local Legend certificate of achievement, gift bags with college-bound essentials and a scholarship to assist them as they continue to higher education.

Both women selected at this spring’s Local Legend Luncheon will be awarded for their active involvement within the Atlanta community. Emmy Award winning Monica Pearson has accomplished many triumphs including the “2004 Georgia Woman of the Year Award” and has also received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from both Clark-Atlanta University in 1986 and most recently Oglethorpe University in 2007. Chilli, member of R&B group TLC, has won four Grammy’s and has been the former host of Dasani Ultimate Style and Beauty Lounge, which supported women in a variety of positive image building programs. Through the philanthropic efforts and hard work put forth by these two individuals, the students nominated are sure to gain insight of the tools necessary to achieve success.

The six chosen students from Fulton County with an outstanding GPA are:

Brittany McGrue, Senior, Alpharetta High School

Cinnamon Murray, Senior, North Springs High School

Daria Leroy, Senior, Independence High School

Darion Forrest, Senior, Benjamin Banneker High School

Carrabba’s Italian Grill is set to prepare and serve a phenomenal lunch while Willie Watkins Limousine Service provides luxury transportation to top off the day! The Envy Boutique in Little Five Points, also serving as sponsors, will provide exclusive designer dresses fit for stars. Other sponsors that will make the gift bags full of necessities will be Delta, State Farm, Bronner Bros,. BGC. Inc., Peachy Treats, Quik Trip and Alphozo Mendoza , on behalf of Atlanta Royal Photography.

About Ms. Monica Pearson News Anchor for WSB-TV, Channel 2, the ABC affiliate in Atlanta, Georgia. Monica Pearson is the first African-American AND the first woman to become News Anchor in the Atlanta market and has been in that position with WSB-TV since 1975. The Emmy Award winner has held the same job position at the same station longer than any other television personality in Atlanta and longer than most women in the country. She is well known for her occasional TV specials, "Monica Pearson's Close-Ups" that feature in-depth interviews with nationally known celebrities and world leaders.

About Rozonda “Chilli Thomas Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Chilli started a career as a dancer for the R&B duo Damian Dame. In 1991 she became a member of the group TLC. Along with Tione “T-Boz” Watkins and the late Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopez, TLC was one of the most successful girl groups in history, selling over 45 million records worldwide. Thomas also markets a line of handbags titled, Bags by Chilli and in June 2009, VH1 announced plans to air a reality series starring Thomas. The series, which will document Thomas' quest to find love and manage her life, is set to air in April 2010.
